Wi-Fi Access Guide - Connecting to eduroam (UCB Wi-Fi)
This guide will explain how to set up your device to access the eduroam Wi-Fi network available at all campuses and accommodation sites.
Using the eduroam configuration assistance tool
- Switch on your smartphone, tablet or laptop and check that Wi-Fi is enabled
- Scan the displayed code with your favourite QR scanner app or access it from the following location:
https://cat.eduroam.org/?idp=2064
- Download and install the application
Using the geteduroam tool
- Switch on your smartphone, tablet or laptop and check that Wi-Fi is enabled
- Scan the displayed code with your favourite QR scanner app or access it from the following location:
https://www.geteduroam.app
- Download and install the application
Next, open the app
Your login details must be entered in the following format:
Type of User
Login ID or IDENTITY
Staff
username@ucb.ac.uk
Students
Student ID@student.ucb.ac.uk
For example;-
A staff member with a login of asmith would need to enter a login name or Identity of asmith@ucb.ac.uk (this is the same as your email address but without the dot, i.e “.”)
A student with a Student ID of abc12345678 would need to enter a login name or Identity of abc12345678@student.ucb.ac.uk
Your device will now be set up to connect automatically to the eduroam wireless network.
Connecting Manually
- On your wireless device, select the wireless network eduroam
- Upon connecting, you will be prompted to enter your username and password.
Your login details must be entered in the following format
Type of User
Login ID or IDENTITY
Staff
username@ucb.ac.uk
Students
Student ID@student.ucb.ac.uk
For example;-
A staff member with a login of asmith would need to enter a login name or Identity of asmith@ucb.ac.uk (this is the same as your email address but without the dot, i.e “.”)
A student with a Student ID of abc12345678 would need to enter a login name or Identity of abc12345678@student.ucb.ac.uk
At the login prompt enter your username and password and then connect.
Note: Warnings about Certificates or Trust can be safely ignored
Your device will now be set up to connect automatically to the eduroam wireless network.
Troubleshooting
Some wireless devices may need advanced configuration before a successful connection can be made.
If your device is experiencing difficulties connecting then can you check that the below advanced settings are selected.
SSID/Network Name
eduroam
Identity
Enter your UCB computer login name
Password
Enter your UCB computer login password
Security Type
WPA2-Enterprise or 802.1x EAP
Encryption Type
AES
EAP Type
PEAP or Protected EAP
Inner EAP Type or Phase 2 Authentication
EAP-MSCHAP-V2 or MSCHAPV2 or MS-CHAP version 2
Certificate Server
unticked or do not check or do not validate or none
Login Details (Windows 7 or Vista)
Untick “use my windows login ID and password”
